Profession in prestige

In the 'very' old days, top 'professions' included philosophers (in ancient Greece, though that is probably less about philosophy per se, but more about political science) and teachers (in ancient China, although philosophers are often also teachers). Military advisers and strategists were also often on the top list. Now, things seems to have largely settled on economics and business. What does this say about the evolution of priorities in societies?
