Bag of words and reasoning

Reasoning is generally hold to be uniquely and superiorly human. But if LLM is producing seemingly logical (& often impressive) sentences and conversations that reads/sounds like reasoning, though only/largely through the likelihood of the next word (hallucinations, though strange, count little in its overall rather reasonable streams of words), is reasoning still necessary or superior?
